Engineering Synapse Nav: How We Built an Interactive 3D PC Architecture Engine with Real-Time Fluid Dynamics
By Arnav Sharma

Why We Built Synapse Nav
At ImpacttX Technologies, our philosophy has always been simple: software should not merely present data — it should solve tangible, real-world problems through rigorous engineering.
When our engineering team looked at modern PC hardware building in 2026, we discovered a glaring paradox. Computing components are faster and more complex than ever — massive triple-fan GPUs, 360mm liquid coolers, PCIe 5.0 M.2 lanes, and 12V-2x6 high-wattage connectors. Yet the tools millions of builders and enterprise workstation architects rely on still look like spreadsheets from 2012.
Traditional part pickers rely on static, binary text compatibility lists. They check whether a CPU socket matches a motherboard, but they cannot tell you if:
- A 352mm enthusiast GPU will physically collide with a front-mounted 360mm AIO radiator.
- A dual-tower air cooler will force you to shift your front 120mm fan 8mm upwards over 44mm RGB RAM heatspreaders, slamming into the chassis side-panel glass.
- Your GPU power cable bend will violate the PCI-SIG mandated 35mm unbent radius, risking terminal thermal runaway.
- Your power supply can handle microsecond 200% transient power excursions without emergency trip shutdowns.
To solve this, we engineered Synapse Nav (synapsenav.com) — ImpacttX's proprietary interactive PC architecture matrix and simulation platform, spearheaded by lead product engineer Arnav Sharma.
1. Sub-Millimeter Spatial Clearance in 2D & 3D
The foundational pillar of Synapse Nav is Axis-Aligned Bounding Box (AABB) spatial geometry executed in real-time inside the browser using Three.js and WebGL.
Rather than storing generic tags, Synapse Nav tracks three-dimensional physical envelopes for over 2,500 components:
interface ComponentPhysicalEnvelope {
lengthMm: number;
widthMm: number;
heightMm: number;
clearanceOffsets: {
radiatorOffsetMm: number;
ramCutoutHeightMm: number;
cableBendZoneMm: number;
};
}When a user places an RTX 5080 (320mm length, 140mm width) inside a chassis rated for 360mm max GPU clearance, traditional tools display a green checkmark. But Synapse Nav evaluates the cooling configuration:
Effective Clearance = Case Max GPU - (Front Radiator Thickness + Fan Thickness)If the user mounts an Arctic Liquid Freezer III with a 38mm radiator and 25mm fans:
Effective Clearance = 360mm - (38mm + 25mm) = 297mmSynapse Nav instantly flags a hard 23mm collision, highlighting the intersecting volumes in glowing red wireframes and offering 1-click alternative mounting configurations.
2. Eulerian Navier-Stokes Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel
Thermals can make or break a high-performance build. Rather than guessing airflow with generic "positive vs negative pressure" labels, Arnav engineered an in-browser 90×56 Eulerian potential-flow grid solver.
Operating at 60 FPS on client devices, the solver computes:
- Source & Sink Dynamics: Front intake fans act as continuous momentum injectors, while rear and top exhaust fans serve as negative pressure sinks.
- Doublet Obstacles: Massive GPU backplates and motherboard VRM heatsinks part incoming streamlines according to Bernoulli potential flow.
- Darcy Fin Stack Drag: Air moving through dense heatsink fins experiences porous drag, damping airspeed and modeling thermal dissipation.
- Buoyant Thermal Plumes: Exhaust heat from the CPU and flow-through GPU cutouts rises dynamically based on calculated component wattage (TDP & TGP).
Builders can drag a virtual pitot and thermocouple sensor across their virtual chassis to inspect local airspeed (m/s), temperature (°C), and dynamic pressure in real time.
3. ATX 3.1 & Transient Excursion Modeling
Modern silicon pushes peak power delivery to its limits. An enthusiast graphics card rated at 450W TGP can easily draw 700W+ in 100-microsecond transient spikes during sudden compute bursts or scene transitions.
Synapse Nav incorporates ATX 3.1 power excursion verification:
- Evaluates PSU holdup time and 200% excursion compliance (100μs duration).
- Enforces dedicated 12V-2x6 cable routing checks with recessed sense pin detection.
- Calculates total continuous system load plus transient safety headroom.
4. Secondary Market Deal Valuation with BLS CPI-U
Hardware builders frequently explore second-hand marketplaces like eBay and Reddit r/hardwareswap. However, assessing whether a used GPU or CPU is a fair deal requires historical context.
Synapse Nav connects historical MSRP launch data with monthly U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) updates:
Real Price (USD) = Launch MSRP × (CPI_Current / CPI_Launch)The engine applies generational architectural depreciation curves, evaluating deals as Great Deal (≥25% below fair market value), Fair Value (±10%), or Overpriced.
The Tech Stack Behind Synapse Nav
Building a computation-heavy engineering platform that loads instantly required a meticulously optimized modern stack:
- Next.js 16 (App Router): Hybrid server component streaming for catalog metadata and lightweight client shells.
- React 19 & React Three Fiber: Concurrent rendering and declarative 3D scene-graph management.
- Bun Runtime: Blazing-fast unit test execution (1,100+ tests under 12 seconds) and local dev toolchains.
- Tailwind CSS & Biome: Strict zero-lint-drift code hygiene and responsive, dark-mode high-tech interfaces.
- Firebase Firestore: Synchronized community builds, bug diagnostic catalogs, and user telemetry.
